The steel figures are derived from past experiences, cultural ideologies and interactions with people that have made a significant impact on my life. The combination of distinctive characteristics and symbols into a singular three-dimensional form gives these pieces their defined presence.
The inherent strength of the figures lies in the design as well as the choice of material. The use of steel suggests a solid force, an immoveable rigidity. There is, however, an interaction that takes place as I push the steel into the form of the final design -- a give and take between artist and material, a creative compromise.
